Kicking Off A New Series!

I'm back from my blogging break and ready to get back to writing and teaching.

After being away from the young wives' class I teach on Sunday mornings for 3 Sundays, we had some catching up to do and then I introduced what we'll be studying over the next several months.

(Reminder:  the following are my class notes from a young wives Bible class that I teach.  They are not a complete lesson.)

Our new series is about women of the Bible!  Now, that would be a good study on its own, but I want to put a different spin on it, one that they will be able to relate to in their everyday lives along with what they see around them.

We started the class with the following questions about God's relationship with women as a whole and the role He assigned them:

Does God favor men over women?

Why did God place 'mandates' on women such as being submissive to their husbands and give them different roles from men in the church?

The final question we looked at was:  Does God have a job for women?  Can they help grow God's kingdom under the mandates He placed on them?

We talked in-depth about each of those questions always going to the Bible for answers, then I led the class in a slightly different direction by asking the following questions ...

Do you know that there is a woman in the Bible who had a drunkard for a husband?

Do you know that there are two Christian women in the Bible who couldn't get along?

Do you know that there are women in the Bible who were barren?

Do you know that there is a woman in the Bible whose husband was not a Christian, yet she managed to raise their son to become a faithful Christian?

Do you know that there is a woman in the Bible who was very poor?

Do you know that there are women in the Bible who fought discouragement and depression?

Do you know that there is a woman in the Bible who was a prostitute?

Do you know that there is a woman in the Bible who dealt with a long-term, ongoing health issue?

I kept firing similar questions and the answer was always, 'no' I didn't know.

We talked about the often-mistaken idea that women of the Bible didn't have to deal with issues that women of today do.  Nothing could be further from the truth, and I want this class to see that.  When we can relate, we can learn!

In this series, we're going to look at how women of the Bible helped grow God's Kingdom in spite of the issues, dilemmas and or situations they were in.  If they can do it, women of today can do it too!  The class seemed very interested, and I can't wait to kick the series off with our first woman which comes from this question ...

Do you know that there is a woman in the Bible who was a prostitute?  This woman was not only a prostitute, but she was fearful, manipulative, and a bold face liar!  She found herself in a challenging situation that would shape her future, and she had a decision to make.  Do you know who that woman was?  Was God able to use this woman to further His kingdom?

I'll leave you to think on that for a while!

This class will not meet next Sunday but will pick back up the following Sunday so there won't be class notes next week for this series.

(Don't forget that we'll also be starting a verse-by-verse in-depth study on Martha when our Thursday Ladies Bible class resumes in two weeks!)

May God be glorified in all that we do!

patsy @ From This Heart of Mine

In the spirit of Titus 2:3-5 and from this heart of mine ...

Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
